Statement by the Hong Kong Coalition on President Xi Jinping’s important remarks about Chief Executive Carrie Lam’s work report
The Coalition believes that President Xi Jinping’s important remarks after listening to Chief Executive Carrie Lam present her work report fully reflects the Central Government’s care and support for Hong Kong. It also demonstrates the Central Government’s encouragement and affirmation for the SAR government.
The purpose of the Coalition is to uphold “One Country, Two Systems”, inspire Hong Kong to overcome difficulties and rediscover its former glory. We believe that only by defending “One Country, Two Systems” can Hong Kong achieve value and room for development. The Central Government hopes for Hong Kong to enjoy a stable society and a prosperous economy. For more than six months since implementing the Hong Kong National Security Law, the city emphatically returned to the rule of law following a period of great chaos. This shows that Hong Kong will achieve prosperity and stability only if the Central government exercises overall jurisdiction over the SAR. Patriots governing Hong Kong is an inevitable prerequisite for the comprehensive and accurate implementation of “One Country, Two Systems” and the effective implementation of the Central Government overall jurisdiction. It is an unalterable principle that rulers of any region around the world should love their country. Hong Kong can only achieve long-term peace and stability if patriots govern it without the chaos caused by anti-China disruptors.
The Coalition believes that President Xi understands the situation intimately and takes excellent care of Hong Kong. The Central government has and will continue to take all necessary measures to fully support Hong Kong in the fight against the epidemic, which is Hong Kong’s most significant advantage and reliance. We believe that Hong Kong can triumph against the virus and protect people’s livelihood with the Central Government’s support.
The Coalition hopes that all sectors of the Hong Kong community will adhere to the principle of “Patriots Governing Hong Kong” and jointly safeguard our city’s long-term peace and stability. We encourage all to support the SAR government’s anti-epidemic efforts to protect people’s livelihood.
