Response to the Draft Decision of the National People's Congress on Improving the Election System of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Response to the Draft Decision of the National People's Congress on Improving the Election System of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region

Today, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 13th National People's Congress made a statement on the Draft Decision of the National People's Congress on Improving the Electoral System of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (hereinafter referred to as the "Decision"). The statement said the decision conforms to the actual situation in Hong Kong, safeguards "Patriots Governing Hong Kong", is conducive to protecting national sovereignty, security, development interests, and ensuring Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability. It resolutely prevents anti-China and anti-Hong Kong supporters from infiltrating the power structure of the SAR, laying a solid foundation for the long-term stability of "One Country, Two Systems". The Hong Kong Coalition expresses its unwavering support for this decision.

The Hong Kong Coalition believes that, according to relevant clauses in the Constitution, the Basic Law and the Hong Kong National Security Law, it is within the Central Government's power to improve the electoral system of the SAR, so the "Decision" is legal and reasonable. On this occasion, having the Central Government formulate policies to solve the electoral issue in Hong Kong is not only conducive to the overall development of Hong Kong society but also to the future focus of society on solving deep-rooted conflicts and protecting the welfare of Hong Kong citizens.

Finally, we hope that after the SAR government adopts the decision, it will actively cooperate with implementing the "Decision", improve local legislative work, and ensure that the "Decision" is implemented properly.
