Statement on the Grand Commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War

This morning, a grand ceremony to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was solemnly held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, Xi Jinping, delivered an important speech, calling for collectively remembering history, honoring martyrs, cherishing peace, and forging a better future. The Hong Kong Coalition fully endorses and firmly supports this call!
The Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was an arduous and heroic struggle. Hong Kong, bound by blood and kinship with the motherland, fought side by side with compatriots. Whether through joining guerrilla forces such as the Hong Kong-Kowloon Brigade and the East River Column, transporting supplies, or rescuing those in distress, Hong Kong demonstrated the patriotic spirit of the Chinese nation, united in righteous indignation and facing national challenges together. President Xi’s important speech at the commemoration ceremony reminds Hong Kong to always bear in mind the lessons of history, cherish the hard-won peace, steadfastly uphold the “One Country, Two Systems” policy, safeguard national sovereignty, security, and development interests, and contribute to Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability.
The Coalition calls on all sectors of Hong Kong society to take this commemoration as an opportunity to thoroughly study and implement the spirit of President Xi’s important speech, actively promote the spirit of resistance, and strengthen patriotic education. In particular, it urges guiding the younger generation to establish a correct understanding of history, nation, and country, fostering a stronger sense of national identity and pride.
The Coalition firmly believes that by adhering to the principles of “One Country, Two Systems” and “patriots governing Hong Kong,” fully leveraging Hong Kong’s unique role as a connector between China and the world, and deepening exchanges and cooperation with other countries, Hong Kong will undoubtedly contribute its wisdom and strength to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and the promotion of global peace and development.
