The Jimmy Lai Case Has Profound Harm; Support the Court in Sentencing According to Law

Last month, the court ruled that Jimmy Lai is guilty of two counts of "conspiracy to collude with foreign or external forces to endanger national security" and one count of "conspiracy to publish seditious publications." Starting today（12 Jan）, the court will handle the mitigation pleas for all defendants in this case over four consecutive days.
This case underwent a 156-day public hearing, with irrefutable evidence fully proving that Jimmy Lai is the core mastermind behind the conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security and conspiracy to publish seditious publications. For a long time, he has used the media platforms he controls to arbitrarily create social contradictions, provoke class antagonisms, and openly beg foreign forces to impose sanctions on the country and the HKSAR. Such actions seriously trample on the fundamental interests of the country and severely damage the vital well-being of Hong Kong citizens. The Hong Kong Coalition firmly supports the court in sentencing according to law and justice, demonstrating the spirit of the rule of law and the confidence in justice in Hong Kong, building a solid defense line for national security under "One Country, Two Systems," and defending the solid foundation for long-term peace and stability in Hong Kong.
Some politicians in the US and the West completely ignore the irrefutable facts of Jimmy Lai's harm to Hong Kong and causing chaos, instead packaging him as a so-called "democracy activist," and repeatedly exerting pressure, even threatening to sanction Hong Kong judicial personnel. This double standard that confuses right and wrong is a blatant interference in Hong Kong's judicial independence and a wanton trampling on international rule of law principles. The Coalition strongly condemns this and resolutely opposes any external forces interfering in Hong Kong affairs and disrupting judicial fairness.
The Jimmy Lai case is the first landmark case since the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law that touches on the clause of "colluding with external forces to endanger national security," with extremely important precedent and deterrent significance. The Coalition calls on all sectors of society and all Hong Kong citizens to be united in heart and mind, firmly support the court in making a fair and strict sentence according to law, and join hands to build an iron wall for national security. Only in this way can Hong Kong eliminate interference, concentrate on striving for the economy and seeking development, steadily advance on the journey from stability to prosperity, and create a better tomorrow.
